NOTE: According to Fluval: "Changing your impeller is proven to prolong the life of your filter."

Fluval's FX Canister Filter Annual Maintenance Instructions:
To prevent sudden failure or reduced performance, Fluval suggests the following maintenance be performed every year on their FX Series Canister Filters:

• Unplug the filter prior to cleaning
• Replace the Impeller. Clean and lubricate the included Motor Seal Ring & AquaStop O-Ring Gaskets (with the included Inland Seas Super Lube Silicone Lube).
• Check and clean the intake Stem/Strainer
• Check and clean the Ribbed Hosing
• Replace the included Bio-Foam Pads (every six months)
• Replace half of the included Bio-Foam Blocks (every six months)
• Replace the included Carbon Foam (every month)
• The Ammonia, Phosphate & Nitrite Remover Pads are optional. If you're using these pads, they should be replaced every month as well.
• Replace half the included BioMax and rinse the other half (every six months)
